Death Valley in Winter
- a whole different world!
January 2005
Telescope Peak and Panamint Lake!
seldom-seen sight! Water in
Panamint
Lake
What most of the dirt roads in DV look like after the
rains!
It'll be a while before they can get them all open - gotta FIND
the road first!
Lake Manly shall rise again!! Just north of Badwater
This is why Lake Manly is risisng - the Amargosa River
at Ashford Mill
The Amargosa River starts north of Beatty, flows down
to Lake Tecopa at Shoshone and Tecopa,
flows past Dumont Dunes, crosses Hwy 127 (seen here), then flows
through "the narrows"
where there are Amargosa River pupfish year-around, then curls
north into Death Valley proper, passes
Ashford Mill, and dumps out into Lake Manly (the Pleistocene Lake)
Another view of Lake Manly, just past Badwater -looking
north
How often do you get to do THIS?! It's a solid salt
pan bottom, so no problem...
reflection of Telescope Peak in Badwater's perennial
pools
you can always get a shot like this- the pools are spring-fed.
This is after sunset...
This much Desert Gold out already! These are the plants
which covered the
bahadas in 1998 - they may do it again this spring!!
up higher in DV - Cowhorn Valley on Big Pine-Scotty's
road
lasting snow is what defines where Joshua Trees live in the Mojave
Desert
Saline Valley's "North Pass" - afraid it's
a no-go for a while 1/17/05
