Red Rock Canyon and the Desert Tortoise Natural Area - Saturday, March 17th
WHERE:  Approximately 100 mile loop south of Ridgecrest. Featuring Red Rock Canyon and the Desert Tortoise Natural Area, and many places along the way with Naturalist Janet Westbrook.. (IF it should rain and close Garlock road, alternate date for this trip would be March 31).

How: 8:00 a.m., meet at the Museum for check in; participants will be required to sign liability waiver. Car caravan will be organized and carpools encouraged.

Cost: 30 per person or $50 for 2 people. Maturango Museum members receive an additional $5 off per member. Families encouraged.

Trip to view local Wildflowers - Saturday, April 7th
WHERE: ½ day trips to local area for flowers – Flower Show weekend with Naturalist Janet Westbrook.Leave from the museum parking lot at 10:15 AM

COST: FREE

During Museum’s Annual Wildflower Show there should have lots of flowers by then! FREE field trips to local “hot spots”. Graded dirt roads, OK for any vehicle with clearance; each day we’ll visit different places around the Indian Wells Valley area. 10:15 a.m. both Saturday April 1 and Sunday April 2. Back to town by around 1 p.m. Bring water, cameras, snacks, and appropriate clothing / shoes.

Walker Basin loop - Bodfish - Saturday, April 14th
WHERE: Wagon roads to Space ships; Walker Basin, Tehachapi RR Loop, windmills, and Mojave. In search of foothill flowers and lovely scenery with 2 centuries of history with Naturalist Janet Westbrook.

 

How: 8:00 a.m., meet at the Museum for check in; participants will be required to sign liability waiver. Car caravan will be organized and carpools encouraged.
 About 230 miles RT driving from Ridgecrest.

Southern Owens Valley - Saturday, May 12th
WHERESouthern Owens Valley – Olancha to Manzanar, Owens Lake bed, etc/. with Naturalist Janet Westbrook.

Meet at the Museum for check in by 7:45 for departure by 8 a.m.

Meadows of the Kern Plateau - Saturday, June 23rd
WHERE: The meadows on the Kern Plateau above Kennedy Meadows – Kennedy Meadows to Sherman Pass with Naturalist Janet Westbrook.

Meet at the Museum for check in by 8:00 fcheckin.

COST: $25 members ($40 for 2 adult family members), $30 nonmembers ($50 for 2 adults). The member price applies to members only, not non-member guests. $5 parking fee per car at the trail head.

 The mission of the Maturango Museum is to preserve, interpret, and develop an appreciation for the natural and cultural history of the Northern Mojave Desert through research and education in the natural and physical sciences, and to promote the arts.
